The only safe place for a vehcile to cross railroad tracks is at a public crossing  designated by the crossbuck, flashing red lights or a gate.

     Never drive around lowered gates or through the flashing red lights in an effort to beat the train. Not only is it illegal, it can often be a deadly mistake.  Always yield the right of way to the train.

Look, Listen & Live.

      Trains Cannot Swerve!  When locomotive engineers see a vehicle or person on the tracks in the path of their train, they can't swerve out of the way-----There's no steering wheel! The train simply follows the tracks. Engineers can only sound the warning horn and apply the emergency brakes. Look both ways and listen before crossing train tracks.

Expect a train at any time.  Anytime is train time.

     Turn your cell phone and MP3 players off when you're near train tracks. Forget texting, as it could cause you to pay inadequate attention to the road and at highway-rail intersections.

      All of these distractions can have deadly consequences, because there is no second chance if you meet a train at a crossing.

     The only safe place for pedestrians to cross is at a designated public crossing or at a crossing with either a crossbuck, flashing red lights or a gate. 

     If you cross at any other place, you are trespassing and can be ticketed or fined. Cross tracks ONLY at designated pedestrian or roadway crossings.

     Tracks, trestles, rail yards and equipment are private property even if no signs are in place.  If you hunt, fish or ride your ATV on the tracks, you are trespassing on private property.

     All train tracks are private property. Never walk on tracks; it's illegal to trespass and highly dangerous, Besides being fined, you could lose your life.
